Here are a few basic guidelines for entry:

A Limerick is a kind of witty, humorous or nonsense poem of five lines, in which the first, second, and fifth lines rhyme with each other, and the third and fourth lines, which are shorter, form a rhymed couplet.

The rhyme scheme is AABBA

Here’s an example:

In a quaint little town they call Tulsa,
There was a SCOTFEST with a dance floor made of balsa
With pipers and dancers
And Celtic beer drinking prancers
No-one noticed the Mayor dancing Salsa

• You must successfully upload your original Limerick onto OKSCOTFEST.com’s Limerick competition form by noon (12 pm) on September 3, 2012.
• The Limerick must consist of 5 lines written in the AABBA rhyme format identified in the rules of the Limerick contest.   Any hard deviation from this format will result in immediate disqualification, removal from the contest page and prize consideration.
• The Limerick must be an original work by the entrant, no substitutions or previously published materials will be accepted. All   entries will undergo a thorough check to ensure that no duplicates are allowed entry.
• The submission must not be defamatory, offensive or obscene nor violate or infringe on any trademark, copyright, publicity, privacy or other rights of any third party. 
• All contestants must be at least 18 years old to enter.

The submission period will end on September 3, 2012 at 12 pm (CST), after which the top eight entries will be selected for the final voting period. Voting will begin on September10, 2012 when we present the finalists online for consideration. For a period of five days any readers over 13 years of age will be able to log into our contest platform on okscotfest.com to vote for their favorite entry.  The Limerick that receives the highest number of votes will be declared the winner and announced at 4PM Sunday September 16 at the festival main stage!

Remembering;

Bob Laird; of Clan Lindsay passed the morning of September 3rd.

Hal Burdick; August 21st was a sad day for our S.C.O.T. family.  Longtime Scottish Club member Hal Burdick passed away.  Hal will be missed as he was and always will be remembered as one of the biggest supporters and proponents of the club and of Scottish culture.

Corey Bon Hall was born June 21st, 1986 in Corpus Christi, TX.  The son of Von and Angela Hall and brother of Caleb Sean Hall, Corey was a member of the SCOT Club as a child. He was a longtime and regular visitor to the Oklahoma Scottish Festival and in recent years was proud to bring his daughter Charli, age 5.  Those who knew him remember his generous nature, protective spirit, and awesome smile and sense of humor.  Corey passed away September 16, 2010, just one day before last year’s festival start.  He was buried in proud Scottish tradition wearing his kilt to his cousin Colton Hall piping.

World’s Largest Kilt to be made of Blackwatch Tartan!  This tartan is used by Scotland’s Black Watch (Royal Scottish Regiment), an elite military regiment whose history stretches back almost three centuries.

The public unveiling of the Kilt itself will follow in mid-September, the week prior to the Oklahoma Scottish Festival.  As an added attraction for all those who donate, all the names of the people, societies, clubs or clans etc who have donated will be entered into a book that will be displayed wherever the Kilt is, so they can come and see themselves in print as being part of a World Record event.  Additionally, corporate sponsorship is available and encouraged, any donation of $500.00 will have their name or logo on the kilt AND receive a free Corporate Table, 30 passes and $100 to spend at the Corporate Ceilidh!

The funds raised for TSG&G Inc will be used towards sponsorship of Scottish cultural events, including our own Oklahoma Scottish Festival (which is 32 years old this year!) and a donation will be made to the Wounded Warrior Project and the Help For Heroes Charity.

The Ceilidh takes place Friday, September 14th, the opening night of this three-day festival. Each reserved corporate table ($250) includes admission for up to twenty (20) of your employees and guests and 4 Parking passes for a preview of Scottish Festival foods, refreshing beverages, and live entertainment from Needfire, Tullamore, Jiggernaut and others.  Throughout the evening you’ll enjoy demonstrations of the pipes & drums, athletics and highland dance.  Reservations also include $100 of festival money for food, drink or official OSF merchandise.
